The state government of Andhra Pradesh recently launched this scheme. In reviewing the 9-hour free power supply program, the energy minister stated that intense instructions have been issued to power utilities to focus on developing a permanent and robust system to provide quality power to farmers to water their standing crops. Reviewing the operation of Discoms, he advised them to strive for better services to energy users while emphasizing grievance redressal. All damaged/ old electric poles, unsecured power lines and conductors, and transformer/line issues should be investigated to safeguard people’s safety. Discoms should also take initiative to offer full power to tribal settlements.

The main objective of the AP Free Power Supply Scheme for farmers is to provide free electricity so that they can carry out their farming activities. - 18.15 lakh farmers would benefit from nine hours of free power every day, for which the government has set out Rs 4,525 crore.
- The government has inaugurated the AP Free Power Supply Scheme, which would deliver nine hours of free electricity every day to farmers, SC and ST families, and farmers at a reduced cost.
- 53,649 families would benefit from power supplied to aqua farmers at Rs. 1.50 per unit.
